The Future Is Local.

The Outer Banks Board Riders is a 501c3 non-profit, all-inclusive surf club founded in 2022. Our mission is to share our passion of surfing by mentoring our youth, introducing families and members of our community to all the wonderful things our ocean can offer. We will participate in regional and national surf club competitions and be good stewards of our fragile shoreline.

As part of our club, we will have a high performance competitive surf team with a fluid and fluctuating roster of local surfers competing in the Mid-Atlantic Board Riders Contest series

Competition Format

Whammy, Tag, and Double Points‍

WSL Judging criteria, interference, and priority rules.

Max 5 teams, 4 surfers per division, 1-hour heat.

One surfer at a time from each team in the water.

The first surfer starts each heat in the designated tag area (Beach start).

The next surfer must be tagged in the designated area. If tagged outside the designated area team gets a 1 point deduction.

The last surfer per team must be in the tag area by end of heat or get a 5 point deduction.3 wave maximum per surfer with best wave scoring.

Age Divisions

7 divisions with 4 surfers per division

Men 14 & Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 & up, Women any age

Age eligibility is calculated by the age you are on the day of each event.

Surfers must surf their age division, NO surfing up or down age groups.

Women may surf in their age group or in the Women’s Heat, but only one heat per event.
